In late February 2009, what amounted to what must have been the shortest call-out ever (under 2 minutes) came about when an elderly gentleman in his 70’s went missing from an Waipu rest home.
Glenn had received call-out notice from the on-call Police SAR member who requested NLSAR attendance.
While Glenn was on the phone to Kevin advising of the situation, Glenn’s other phone rang advising that the missing gentleman had been found unconscious at a nearby park to the rest home and an Ambulance was en-route.
This is also perhaps a timely reminder, that while callouts might be going through a slow period at present, we need to ready for when they do occur.
If this gentle man had NOT been found when he did, NLSAR would have attended while the gentleman’s well being would have been in a deteriating state.
