Cliff Rescue Sept 2007

Wednesday 19th Sept 2007

Three members of the Cliff Rescue team (Shane Cleary, Glenn Hawke, & Kevin Bell)with Four members of the Police SAR squad responded rescued a 28 yr old German tourist, who was walking around the end of Tapeka Point near Russell in the BOI who got caught out with an incoming tide.

He had proceeded around below the ‘Eagles Nest’ until he got blocked by the tide, & then got forced to climb up a cliff face as he couldn’t go back. Unfortunately he got stuck approx. 50’ up a cliff face. A bit of a challenge as this involved working through scrubby gorse before getting onto rock. Due to actual location of the party, safest recovery was up instead of abseiling down to a coastguard boat.
