Caver rescued in Northland

Caver rescued in Northland
Monday July 16, 2001

A search-and-rescue party had to rescue a caver yesterday after his torch batteries went flat while he was still deep inside a Northland cave.

Whangarei police said a 28-year-old Auckland man had gone into caves at Waipu about 2pm yesterday.

He had not emerged by a prearranged time and a search-and-rescue party was alerted about 7pm.

It found the man 150m to 200m inside the cave, after his torch batteries had apparently failed. He was uninjured.
