Busy January 2007

Jan 2007 – STOP PRESS – Now FIVE this year, not quite FIVE in FIVE weeks though – Hunter @ Donelly’s Crossing
& 21yr old @ North Oceans Beach >> Both Successful, both parties fit & well; Excellent Work

The search for the missing retired farmer at Pipiwai proved to be interesting and varied, in the way it was run. With conflicting information coming in, the search operation managers decided to send the searchers to the scene, while they sorted the information and then assigned tasks to teams via radio coms.

Unfortunately, this led to some confusion with the searchers. I am sure though, that with procedures put in place we can get things running more smoothly if this situation happens again in the future. The search was resolved on the second day with the help of members of the Far North S.A.R. organisation when the farmers body was found deceased.

The next search was for a missing fisherman at Matapouri. Unfortunately, he was swept off the rocks and his body found on the second day of the search, some five and a half kilometers away from last known
point.

The third call out was for an elderly man with Alzheimer’s who had been missing overnight. S.A.R. was notified at 8.00am on the following day and he was located at 9.00am, just as we were about to leave the Police Station.
